Guidelines!

Alright everybody, it’s the day before I start my project and I’m just gonna lay some ground rules so that everyone knows what I’m up to and doesn’t try suggesting something I don’t want to do.
I know you’re dying to know what my project is and I’m sure, based on the title of this blog, you can kind of guess what it is. Well, here it goes. I want to read fifty-two books in fifty-two weeks. If you’re not certain what that means, it’s this – I want to read one book per week for a year.

I know I’m not the first one to try this, nor will I be the last. It’s just something that I want to do. And I’m sure I can do it… if I follow the rules. That’s where this post comes in. I just need to lay the foundation before I jump right in the pool, okay?

Rules:
1.      No books over 700 pages. I figure this number since I can read, easily, 100 pages a day but, any more and I get tired or need to go on with my day. 100 pages a day for seven days = no books over 700 pages.
2.       I will not read any books that are part of a series. NONE. This means I will not read Harry Potter for the thousandth time as part of this project. NO TWILIGHT EITHER (Not like I’d read that series again anyways.)
3.       I want to stick with books that are considered ‘classics’. If you go into Barnes and Nobel and you see a ‘Required Reading’ or ‘Classics’ section, those are the types of books I’ll be reading. I probably won’t touch anything that has recently come out unless a) someone buys it for me or b) it shows up at the library.
4.       I want to refrain from rereading books. Since I had read so many books my senior year of high school, this may be a problem. I may reread a book if I didn’t understand it the first time, like One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest.
5.       Go ahead and recommend any book you want. But if I can’t find it at my local library, bookstore, or friend’s house, I probably won’t get to reading it. Sorry. If you recommend a book I’ve already read, I probably won’t reread it. It really depends though. I’m probably not going to sit through Catcher in the Rye again for just one reader. (I loved the book but not the writing, okay?)
6.       Uhm, I think that’s it for rules.

I’m really excited to do this project and I’m not planning on doing it like I’ve seen it done before. I’m not just going to list off the books I’ve read and just assume you know what it’s about and if it’s good. I’m going to talk about it. If you see I’m doing a book that you want to read, you may want to refrain from even reading my blog that week. I want to discuss with you events happening, character developments, plot twists, everything right down to the very ending. I’m going to be reading books that have been around for more than ten years so if I spoil something for you, too bad. This is my warning to you; don’t get pissed at me for unveiling something important in a book. This is my blog, not yours, and the internet is a very open place. I’m not the first one to spoil a book and I sure as hell won’t be the last.

Anyways, the project starts tomorrow! I’ll be starting off reading Peter Pan. Can’t wait to start!

Before the beginning

There is a surprise awaiting for anyone that has 'found' this blog. Beginning on January 2nd, I will be here constantly, working on a project of mine. But until then, you'll just have to wait. :)

See you in a few weeks,
Amanda
